My Very Dear Friends - Shalom

This time last year, during Chanukah – which is all about children's joy and homey coziness, the children of Yemin Orde had to, once again in their young lives, leave a home and face uncertainty. Today, as I walk around the Village, I see recovery and renewal, but not less important, children and educators back on track with pride about the way the Village has overcome this nightmare. Only those who have experienced or even seen from a distance the sight of an approaching forest fire can imagine the horror.

Dr. Fisher, our Village director, considers the children's active role in the rehabilitation as crucial for their own healing. He made sure that the national hub of ecological restoration will be located at Yemin Orde. The Village now houses the Carmel Forest Plant Life Hothouse, a national center for ecological restoration in the region.

The expressive tree drawing was created by Uri'el, 16 (on the right). His tree artistically encompasses his feelings about the time that passed from last Chanukah to this one – when a tree of flames and destruction returns to be an object of beauty.

May this holiday season be a source of joy and meaning to you and your dear ones. Your being there for us makes all the difference for the children, the Village, and our Educational Initiatives for Israel.

As Ever - Chaim Peri
