January Tour with Bat-El Shmueli
Bat-El Shmueli is the Volunteer Coordinator at Yemin Orde Youth Village. Bat-El will travel to New York and South Florida in mid-January to meet with friends and supporters of Yemin Orde Youth Village and Yemin Orde Educational Initiatives. Bat-El will also speak at local synagogues about the Village and the many opportunities available to show support for the children.
As Volunteer Coordinator, Bat-El oversees every aspect of a volunteer’s experience at the Village, from arranging accommodations to daily activities. She also coordinates several experiential programs which bring together Israeli youth with Jewish peers from different countries and backgrounds.
Bat-El grew up on the banks of the Blue Nile in Ethiopia. She arrived in Israel in 1991 and, with her family, lived in a caravan adjacent to a small town in the Galilee. After graduating from a residential high school, Bat-El served in Israel’s Navy with an elite naval commando unit. She received a BA from Haifa University where she studied teaching and the history of the Jewish People. In 2009, Bat-El returned to Ethiopia with the Israeli Foreign Ministry to teach village women about entrepreneurship. She is currently completing a dual Masters degree in Jewish civil law and history of the Jewish people at Haifa University.
