Village Construction Update:
New Master Building Plan Unveiled
We are pleased to report that the new school year at Yemin Orde Youth Village is off to a great start. The rebuilding project is moving forward and spirits are high among the children and staff. The color green is returning to the gardens, hillsides and grassy areas of Yemin Orde. There is a sense that the serenity and beauty of the Carmel Mountains will soon return to our beloved Village.
After months of careful planning and discussions with staff, board members, architects and building professionals, a new Master Plan for the future of the Village is on the verge of completion. Requests for bids will be sent soon to contractors.
Unfortunately, there is a $1.6 million shortfall to complete the rebuilding project in its entirety. Your help is needed to fully complete this construction project.

The Master Plan was created by a special committee comprised of Yemin Orde staff, Board Members, architects and building engineers, and others. Among the committee’s top recommendations was an improved road system for Yemin Orde, which would minimize the number of pathways shared by pedestrians and vehicles. Currently, children walk to and from school on the same narrow main street that is shared by cars, buses and trucks. The new Master Plan includes a new perimeter road that will circle the Village and enable all internal roads to remain vehicle-free, thereby insuring the children’s safety.
The estimated total destruction cost from the fire is $21 million. The Village received
a $6.9 million insurance settlement and $2.8 million in Israel government support. International fundraising efforts provided $9.6 million, which includes $2.1 million from Israel and other countries, and $7.5 million from U.S. donors. Given all of this generous support from a variety of sources, we are still in need of funds to cover projected expenses.
Final plans for the new road system are in place. Construction is expected to begin in Spring 2012, following the winter rains, with a targeted completion date of December 2013.
Please help us reach our goal of $1.6 million so we can move forward with our new Master Plan with confidence!
