Rejuvenating Youth Villages
Yemin Orde Educational Initiatives provides intensive intervention in selected
villages to effect significant transformation of the village. Villages are selected according to strict criteria.
Once the pride of Israel’s
education system, today many residential youth villages
are failing, merely functioning as
'warehouses' for children-at-risk,
principally due to a lack of resources and adequate methodologies. Academic
results are poor and enrollment is low at many villages.
Yemin Orde
Youth Village,
on the other hand, has long been a leader in the care, education and integration
of immigrant and at-risk youth in Israel.
The basis for a national project to rejuvenate Israel’s youth village system is
the recognition by leading educators, philanthropists and by the Israeli
government that this existing infrastructure - much of which is ineffective in
caring for today’s at-risk populations – could, with the correct strategic
investment, be reinvented and repositioned to meet the needs of thousands of
at-risk children and youth in Israel today and well into the future.
