The Children of Yemin Orde:
Success

Yemin Orde annually graduates approximately 125 students; all of whom serve in the Israeli Defense Forces or in National Service, and go on to become productive members of Israeli society. Approximately one third of Yemin Orde alumni attend university (on a par with the national average), or undertake other professional training.

Yemin Orde’s success within the Ethiopian population is particularly compelling. For example, in 2004, 50% of Ethiopian 12th-graders at Yemin Orde succeeded in their bagrut (university matriculation examinations), as compared to a national rate of 28%.

The significant rates of university admission and completion for Ethiopians and for recent immigrants are but one aspect of Yemin Orde’s achievement. Yemin Orde’s culture of leadership has resulted in many examples of note:

  • mayor
  • chief of police
  • scores of Air Force personnel, Army commanders and paratroopers
  • the first Ethiopian-Israeli attorney
  • medical professionals
  • staffers for government ministries
  • business leaders
  • engineers
  • responsible parents and citizens

In 1996, Shimon Peres (former Prime Minister of Israel) awarded Yemin Orde and its director, Dr. Chaim Peri, the Prime Minister’s Award, "Magen Hayeled" (Guardian of the Child), the highest honor of its kind within Israel.
