Yemin Orde Youth Village’s Ceremony for Excellence awards students for achievement in academics, personal growth and active participation in school programs and Village-wide events.

Congratulations to Certificate of Excellence recipients.

Students received certificates of excellence for volunteering, extra-curricular activities, class attendance and participation, having a personal positive attitude as well as a positive outlook on life, and active involvement in activities in their respective homes at Yemin Orde.

During the inspiring and highly-emotional school-wide ceremony, students received a certificate and heart-felt hugs and congratulations from their homeroom teachers, informal educators and other staff present at the program. The award-winners also received cheers and congratulations from their peers who attended the program.

Shmuli Bing, Director, Yemin Orde Youth Village, congratulated the youth gathered in the gymnasium for the awards ceremony.

“Either you can allow the events in your life to write your story for you or you can choose which events write your life story.”

The Village’s newly-formed Y-Orde Band performed as part of the ceremony’s celebration. Additionally, the 12th grade boys presented all staff with certificates of appreciation for the dedication and caring they bring to the Village.

Informal Educators are important mentors to Yemin Orde’s at-risk youth

Following the ceremony, all students received report cards in their homeroom classrooms. Each report card included a detailed and highly personalized assessment from the student’s informal educator. These reports include an assessment of the youth’s social and behavioral development since the beginning of the school year.

The role of an informal educator is similar to a guidance counselor or mentor who maintains a close relationship to youth throughout their years at Yemin Orde. The informal educators are available 24/7 at the Village. They often remain connected to alumni for many years following graduation.

The informal educators’ assessments included comments on:
• A youth’s personal effort
• Positive changes in youth behavior and attitude ie: in social settings, making friends, outgoing
• Self-awareness
• Staff confidence on youth’s ability to achieve success
• Notes on specific extra-curricular activities of each youth
